The Arizona Future Problem Solving Program is pleased to announce that three Arizona teams competing at the International FPS Conference that took place at Michigan State University from May 29-June 1, placed in the top ten. This year’s international competition had more than 2000 students competing as representatives from 38 states and 9 countries focusing on issues associated with child labor.
Of the 190 teams present, Arizona’s junior division team from Desert Arroyo Middle School, members - Annabelle Abel, Tyler Grobmeier, Gracy Slaughter, Cameron Wood coached by Joanne Spiess placed 6th.
In the middle division students Ashley O'Neal, J.J. O'Neal, Julia Villec, Edward Watabe from Esperero Canyon Middle School coached by Jason Grobe, placed 10th.
Arizona’s senior division team comprised of students from Mesa High School, Dobson High School and Red Mountain High School Ashley Kessler, George Khalaf, Brandon Randall, Marguerite Rapp coached by Linda Casey placed 10th.
Alyssa Campbell of Red Mountain High School was a member of the first place on-site scenario writing team.
In the middle division the Esperaro Canyon Middle School and Desert Arroyo Middle School teams were also finalists for the presentation of their action plans.
Celebrating its 20th year in Arizona, AZFPS is grateful for the continued support of the Arizona Department of Education, the Arizona Association for Gifted and Talented, and Arizona State University.
